PARODI MANGROVE REFORESTATION AND RESTORATION PROJECT (THIS IS A BLUE CARBON PROJECT)
Project Location: Province of Santa Elena, near city of Posorja, on Puna Island, across from the mailand Ecuador on the Pacific Coast.
Total Land Area: 32,000 hectares (79,072 acres)
Total Project Area: 3,000 hectares (7,413 acres)
Total project area to be reforested/regenerated: 2,000 hectares (4,942 acres)
(the original mangrove forest was destroyed/cleared for shrimp farm pool, later destroyed by El Niño, and by deforestation for wood harvesting.
Estimated carbon capture (blue carbon) CO2 captured per year:
80 tons/ha/year or 240,000 tons/year
Estimated total CO2 captured in 50 year project life:
12,000,000 tons or 12 million tons/50 years
Estimated project cost:
105,000,000 (21,000,000 first year)
Estimated project launch:
Fall/winter 2024
